![]() ![]() ![]() Through a few hours of trial and error while making microscopic changes to the pots, I found that ~1720 Ohm and ~860 Ohm allowed for DVD movies and music CDs to be read quickly, while the only (admittedly scratched) Xbox game disc I had was a bit slower to initiate reading, but once it started there weren't any issues. Starting off, measuring the resistance the default values out of the factory were 1520 Ohm and 800 Ohm respectively, and no type of disc was actually being read. A screwdriver of the right size will also be needed, as the pots are very easy to strip. Before this, the adhesive around the pots will need to be removed as they keep the two pots locked in place. Second, the two ESD joints need to be desoldered.Īnd third, the pots will need adjustment. Although it's an identical pickup to the old one, it's also not a simple drop-in replacement and will require some work from the user.įirst, the white drive gear needs to be unscrewed from the old one and placed onto the new one. ![]() In case anyone has ever considered it, I did manage to get one of these laser replacements to work on a Samsung drive. ![]()
